Frequently asked questions

Is profit worked out on the price with VAT?

No. The VAT you collect from the customer belongs to the tax authority, so profit is worked out on the price without VAT. If you enter a price that includes VAT, the tool takes the VAT out first.

What is the difference between margin and markup?

Margin is profit divided by the selling price. Markup is profit divided by your total costs. The same profit gives a lower margin than markup, so do not mix the two.

Should the commission be on the price with or without VAT?

It depends on the platform, so check its terms and pick the matching option. Many platforms publish their commission rules in the seller dashboard or help pages.

Which costs should I enter?

Product cost, the shipping you pay, packaging, the ad cost for each sale, any fixed fee per unit sold and other costs. Leave a box blank if it does not apply to you.

What is the break-even price?

It is the lowest price at which you make no profit and no loss after all the costs and percentage fees you entered. Selling below it loses money.

Does the tool know my platform's fees?

No. Fees change and depend on your plan, so you type your own, and the result uses your numbers.
