How to Calculate Your Electricity Bill in Saudi Arabia (2027 Formula + Examples)

By Ali Muhammad · Engineer and founder of Hasebio · Last updated: 27 October 2026

Quick answer: From 2027, a Saudi electricity bill = consumption tariff (kWh × price per slab) + fixed tariff (by breaker capacity, × days ÷ 30) + 15% VAT. For a home: up to 6,000 kWh costs 21 halalas each, above that 33 halalas, and the fixed tariff is 70 to 100 SAR a month.

The bill in 4 steps

  1. Find your kWh: current meter reading − previous reading (both are on the bill).
  2. Consumption tariff: first 6,000 kWh × 21 halalas, the rest × 33 halalas (homes). Divide halalas by 100 for riyals.
  3. Fixed tariff: 70, 80, 90 or 100 SAR a month for homes by breaker capacity. If the bill is not 30 days: fixed tariff × days ÷ 30.
  4. Add 15% VAT to the total of steps 2 and 3.

Worked example: 1,500 kWh home

How to read your meter

  • The meter screen shows the total kWh used since it was installed.
  • Write the number down today and again in 30 days. The difference is your monthly kWh.
  • Your bill shows the previous and current readings and the bill days.

How much does an AC or fridge use?

kWh = power in watts × hours of use ÷ 1,000. Example: an air conditioner drawing about 2,000 watts for 8 hours a day for 30 days = 2,000 × 8 × 30 ÷ 1,000 = 480 kWh, which is about 100.80 SAR a month at 21 halalas (before VAT). Real use depends on the model, its efficiency rating and the outside heat, so treat this as a rough guide.

Frequently asked questions

How is the Saudi electricity bill calculated?

kWh × slab price + fixed tariff by breaker capacity, then 15% VAT on the total.

How do I calculate kWh from my meter?

Subtract the previous reading from the current reading. The difference is the kWh used in that period.

How is the fixed tariff calculated for a 33-day bill?

Fixed tariff × 33 ÷ 30. For a home with a 70 SAR fixed tariff that is 77 SAR.

How many kWh does an AC use per month?

Power in watts × hours a day × days ÷ 1,000. A 2,000 W unit for 8 hours a day uses about 480 kWh a month.

Is VAT added to the fixed tariff too?

Yes. VAT of 15% is added to the whole bill: consumption tariff plus fixed tariff.
