Gold (XAUUSD) Trade Calculator

Work out the profit or loss of a gold trade, or the lot size that fits your risk. Gold is priced in dollars per ounce, so the maths uses the price distance and your broker's contract size.

Enter entry, exit, lots and account currency to see the profit or loss. If your account currency is not USD, also enter the exchange rate.

Good to know

Profit or loss = price move × lots × ounces per lot × rate to your account currency. Spread, commission, swap and slippage are not included. Gold contracts and price steps differ between brokers, so we use price distance instead of pips.

Risk warning

Trading currencies, gold and CFDs with leverage is high risk. You can lose all of your deposit and, depending on your broker, more. This tool is for calculation and learning only. It is not investment advice or a recommendation to trade. Prices, leverage, fees, spreads and pip values differ between brokers, so check your licensed broker's own figures before any trade.

Frequently asked questions

What is XAUUSD?

It is the price of one troy ounce of gold in US dollars. A move of 1.00 in the price is one dollar per ounce.

What contract size should I use?

Many brokers use 100 ounces per lot, but some use less. Check your broker's gold contract. The tool starts at 100 and you can change it.

Why does the tool use price distance and not pips?

The size of a gold pip or point depends on the broker. The price distance in dollars is the same everywhere, so the result does not depend on how your broker names its steps.

How is the profit worked out?

Profit or loss = price move × lots × ounces per lot × the rate to your account currency. For example, a 10 dollar move on 1 lot of 100 ounces is 1,000 dollars.

My account is not in US dollars.

Enter your account currency and how much one US dollar is worth in it. We do not show live rates, so take the rate from your platform.

Is the gold price live?

No. You type the entry, exit and stop prices from your own platform.
